The Moon Pool
Like ourselves throughout life, this painting morphed into something almost unrecognizable from it's early stages. Through a combination of layering and changing up the figure-ground relationships, I eventually arrived at an image satisfyingly evocative of otherworldly mystery.
The title is the same as that of an early science fiction/fantasy story written by Abraham Merritt. The painting has nothing to do directly with the story, but when I had finished it, the story's title sprang to mind as perfectly evoking a focus of mysterious power, around which the figures hover.
